I have been making dollhouses since last winter. I really enjoyed learning all about scale models. I also learned the hobby can be expensive and time consuming. Some of the items I acquired are no longer manufactured. I was really disappointed to find out how expensive it can be to get any of the obsolete products. I became concerned about the environmental cost to make these items. I also found that many manufactured products don't fit a particular need. For instance, my manufactured Christmas trees are not the size I am imagining for my diorama. The handmade products from other crafts people can be very expensive.
I was at work and got the bright idea to use discarded sanding belts to create dollhouse roofing in the 12th scale. Someone at work said that is really a good idea and gave me some sandpaper that was about to be tossed. It was perfect for a rustic old cabin.  I was asked if I could do other things like decorations for trains. Of course I would try my best.
